Disconnecting your weeping tile is now required by the City of Hamilton and Halton Region for you to receive funding to reduce the flow of water into the municipal sanitary sewers.
Many local building departments are requesting that homeowners disconnect their weeping tiles from the municipal sanitary sewer drain lines. In the past, waterproofing companies and contractors would simply connect weeping tile systems directly to sanitary sewer systems in order to get rid of all rain water filtering into the weeping tile system.
Sanitary Sewer Systems Relief:
One of the reasons why city sewer lines back up during a heavy rainfall is due to too much discharge coming from downspouts and weeping tile drainage systems. One way to relieve this excess water is by disconnecting a home’s downspout and weeping tiles from the City sewer lines.
Sump Pump System Connects:
Once a weeping tile system is disconnected from the City Sanitary System, the water coming in will need to be diverted somewhere else. A sump pump system is installed to handle this discharge of rain water.
Existing weeping tiles are dug up using an excavator or by hand. The weeping tiles are disconnected from the home’s internal drain system and diverted to a new or existing sump pit. This is done by snapping the existing connection to the internal drain and rerouting it to the sump pit or by core drilling through the footing to reach the weeping tiles and connect them to a pipe running to the sump pit.
Local Government Subsidy Programs:
Hamilton - 3P Program (Protective Plumbing):
Get up to $2,000.00 in government subsidy for essential protective plumbing service installs within the Greater Hamilton Area. Some of this subsidy is for disconnecting weeping tile systems.
Halton Region - Flood Prevention Program:
Get up to $2,725.00 in government subsidy for essential sanitary sewer system service installs within the Halton Region. Some of this subsidy is for disconnecting weeping tile systems.
